An early journey by bus passing through the andean communities, We leave Cusco city, then make an stop to visit one of the Pre-Inca cementery at Ninamarca community, then we descent into the valley of Paucartambo folkloric town and have a short walk, continuing the trip we arrive to the Acanaco point (3,530 masl) which also demark the boundaries of the Manu biosphere, this is also the entrance to the rain forest because after this we descent into the Cloud Forest (1,550 masl) the habitat of Cock of the rock considered the National bird of Peru, then we take the by to Pillcopata town, we spend the night.(L,D).
DAY 2 : PILLCOPATA - TAMBO BLANQUILLO.
Alter an early walk along the road, we’ll take the bus to Atalaya port at (650 masl). From this place we take the motorized boat down the Alto Madre de Dios River where we can see many birds along the river side. Herons, Cormorants, Egrets, parrots and macaws flying around. Then we continue our trip on the Madre de Dios River to Tamblo Blanquillo. Night in lodge.
DAY 3: TAMBO BLANQUILLO (MACAW CLAY LICK).
At first light of the day, we take the boat down the river until to the Macaw Clay Lick to watch the dazzling spectacle of hundreds of parakeets, parrots and macaws eating clay. Going back up the river we stay in a basic lodge, or camp next to that basic lodge, depending on availability.
DAY 4: TAMBO BLANQUILLO - MAQUISAPAOYOJ.
Early in the morning we go to the Macaw Clay Lick and - from a blind - watch flocks of Parakeets, Parrots and Macaws arriving to eat the clay of the lick. After the spectacle we pack everything and travel for 45 minutes upstream to Maquisapayoj. Here we sleep on a platform with mosquito nets close to the mammal salt lick to observe Tapirs and other mammals at night.
DAY 5: MAQUISAPAOYOJ - YANAYACU.
After exploring the trails around Maquisapayoj we travel upstream for 3 hours to get Yanayacu lodge, in the afternoon we going to walk around the lodge trying to see more wildlife. Optional night walk before dinner and a shower!
NOTE:Those passengers, who decide return by flight, have to pay extra flight.
DAY 6: YANAYACU - CLOUD FLOREST.
Continue our journey. We travel by boat upriver for 6 hours Aprox, until Atalaya port. Were we catching hour bus to the Cloud Forest, spending our final night on a platform.
DAY 7: CLOUD FLOREST - CUSCO.
A visit to the Cock of the Rock one more time, after breakfast we have a walk for about three hours, lunch and then arriving in Cusco in the early evening. Transfer to hotel
NOTE:Please consider that Manu flight schedule might be changed or - rarely - even be canceled due to weather conditions or maintenance. Therefore please make sure that you don't book your connecting flights the day after returning from Manu.
